Man, I am sooooooo jealous, between your photos and J's paintings... Venice looks almost quiet of tourists and beautiful of color. The last time I was there was over a New Years (the big one 1999-2000), and I very much enjoyed having the alleys and bridges often to myself (and even St. Marks one miraculous morning, just the pigeons and me, flapping and cooing about).
Fabulous evocative photos ... Venice is amazing.
