In my old haunt - the 'Bar La Marine' - mean oysters were served meanly and bitter coffee was served bitterly by people who spoke English resentfully despite my French greeting. I almost wept salt tears.

Where is La Rochelle? So I won't go there with high expectations?
No Zuleme DO go to La Rochelle which is on the North Atlantic coast in Charentes. It is absolutely wonderful, it just used to be more so when it was a three hour train journey from Paris and no-one went there except me!
I have neighbours originally from Charentes....everyone here wishes they had stayed there....a bitter, mean, avaricious woman and her 'douteux' and unprinicpled husband, neither of whom have any savoir vivre and who would never be missed, here in the Tarn !
